Bricks for Babies

Funding Medical Care for Children in Zinga, Tanzania since 2011

Our Mission With This Project

Despite the pandemic, the need for medical services provided by a Children’s Hospital in Zinga, Tanzania continues. This year the Rotary Club of Onalaska’s Bricks for Babies event is funding 2 baby incubators and 2 baby warmers for the hospital’s new birthing center. For many newborns, the difference between life and death is the availability of proper equipment.

Why We Are Doing This

The Zinga Children’s Hospital Story

The building of the Children’s Hospital, Zinga, Tanzania was funded solely by donations solicited by International Health Partners-US (IHP-US), a Minnesota 501(C)(3) charity. In the past, Rotary International and individual Rotary Clubs have supported this effort through direct donations and equipment purchases.

The Zinga Children’s Hospital serves rural communities were other critical care facilities do not exist. In Tanzania, 1 in 5 children die before the age of 5. The primary causes, all treatable, include malaria, pneumonias, diarrhea, AIDS, malnutrition, and complications during birthing. The new Birthing Center and Surgery Unit combined with the Extended Car Hospital is designed to address many of these issues. Once fully functional, the Children’s Hospital will become a Teaching Hospital preparing medical personnel to serve throughout East Africa.
